Spring 2020 GBSJ Editorial Board:
Roberto Pacheco, Editor-in-Chief
A recent semi-finalist for the nation-wide Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship, Roberto is set to earn his Associate in Arts this Spring and was accepted early to two four-year universities. Furthermore, he is the president of Great Books Student Society and Editor-in-Chief of the current issue of Wright College’s Symposium Journal. Roberto will pursue a degree in philosophy with the hope of studying constitutional law.
Victor Colomé, Managing Editor, Online Edition
Victor is a student at Wright College. Eventually, he aims to obtain a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. In addition to his interest in technology, Victor also enjoys literature and poetry. His favorite Great Books author is William Shakespeare, and his sonnet of choice is Sonnet 116. In his spare time, Victor likes to practice piano and play with his dog, Elei.
Sophia Metropoulos, Managing Editor, Print Edition
Sophia is a second-year student at Wright College completing her associate degree this spring. She plans to study speech and language pathology and hopes to become a speech therapist. Between her three jobs and extracurricular activities, she cherishes being a Greek school music director of children. As president of the PTK Honors Society and vice president of Great Books Student Society, she is dedicated to helping others grow.
Cassandra Lagunas, Coordinating Editor
Cassandra grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She will graduate from Wright College this spring with an associate degree in English. She is the treasurer of the Great Books Society and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. After graduation, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English for a career in publishing. She enjoys spending time with her friends, reading as much as she can, and visiting her family in Mexico.
Hedaya Askar, Associate Editor
Hedaya is a student at Wilbur Wright College. She is from Chicago, and has lived most of her life in the city. She enjoys long walks on the beach and watching sunsets.
Mia Erdenebileg, Associate Editor
Mia is a Wright College student and participant in Wright’s Engineering Pathways program for the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where she hopes to major in computer science. She is also the president of the Wright Chapter of SASE, the Society of Asian Scientist and Engineers. In her free time, she loves listening to music.
Juan Fragoso, Associate Editor
Juan is a full-time student at Wright College interested in the field of clinical psychology. He enjoys cycling and driving and hopes to one day buy and build his dream cars—such as a Toyota Altezza, Honda Integra Type R (DC5), and a Volkswagen Golf R32—while also helping people through their personal conflicts as a clinical psychologist.
Nicole Lozinski, Associate Editor
Nicole is a Wright College graduate who is part of an art collective called The Broken Nose Collective where she works as a photography advisor and helps with the group’s goal of providing opportunities for local Chicago artists to present their work. She is interested in film photography, visual arts, humanities, and literature. She plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in the near future.
Tetyana Palagnuik, Associate Editor
Tetyana was born and grew up in Ukraine and moved to Chicago when she was fourteen. She knows four languages (Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, and English), and she likes to travel. She is a member of PTK, and she is currently finishing her Associate in Arts degree at Wright College. She plans to transfer to UIC to complete a master’s degree in psychology.
Alex Sobiek, Associate Editor
Alex currently attends Wright College, where he has focused his studies on computer science. Interested in machine learning and data analysis, he did not expect to develop a passion for literature during his first two years of college. Thanks to the Great Books Curriculum, Alex found himself fascinated by literary analysis. After Wright College, he looks to obtain a degree in computer science and conduct machine learning research.
Gabriela Sotelo, Associate Editor
Gabby was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She is a first-generation college student and the youngest of four children. She plans to pursue a degree that accommodates her interests in political science, literature, and law. In January 2020, she accepted a position to work for one of the top lawyers in North America. She loves spending time with her family, reading classic literature, and exploring other cultures through food, entertainment, and religion.
Gina Vasquez, Associate Editor
Gina is a full-time student at Wright College majoring in biology. She currently works as a veterinary assistant and plans to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching Netflix, and hanging out with friends.
Yaryna Dyakiv, Assistant Editor
Yaryna grew up in Ukraine and moved to the United States a year ago. She is very enthusiastic about her education at Wright College, and she tries to take advantage of the opportunities she finds there to grow both academically and personally. After graduation, Yaryna plans to pursue a master’s degree in psychology. She loves learning new things, and cannot imagine her life without family, friends, and music.
Michael Petersen, Faculty Advisor and Editor
Michael Petersen has been a professor at Wright College since 1999. He teaches literature and composition and is interested in Shakespeare studies, medieval and early modern literature, nineteenth- and twentieth-century British and American literature, and film. He received his Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University, and his dissertation discussed couplets and sententia in Shakespeare’s Sonnets.
